Hinging: Louvers, Blades, Slats, Panels & Beads
Roll Formed Metal: Louvers, Slats, Profiles and Panels with hinging applications are incorporated with tubular areas on the outside edges of shapes that allow an edge of one piece to be placed into the edge of another. They can be used for a Door, Window, Gate, or Partition area, that can be rolled up or down quickly into an open or closed position. Industries that Hinging Louvers, Slats, Profiles and Panels are used in are: Roll-Up Doors, Garage Doors, High Speed Doors, Fire Doors, Security Window Covers, Awnings, HVAC, among others. With Blades and some Slats and Panels there is a tubular area on one outside edge of the Shape or Fin, that holds a solid Rod, Tube or other round Support that the Blade, Slat or Panel can swing on. The Blade can then be swung open or can close to lay flat against another Blade or a Frame. There are also other uses for Roll Formed Blades that do not have this Hinging capability. Industries that use Roll Formed Hinged Blades are: HVAC, Stacks, Filters, Shades, Awnings, and many others.
Materials used for all these products are generally thinner from .060" through .015" thick. Tolerances must be tight for proper hinge movement for all hinging parts. Thicker, Stronger parts can be in the .075" thickness range and Johnson Bros. can form these up to .125" thick. Lengths of Louvers are generally longer than Blades, however they can both be made as short as 4" or as long as 40 feet. These parts are cut to finished lengths with the tubular areas open and the rest of the shape clean cut.
Many Hinging Blades and Louvers have special end fabrications with cutout areas to allow for assembly clearances. Materials used are: Steel, Stainless, Aluminum, Galvanized, Brass, Bronze, Copper, Alloys, Clad, High Strength, Perforated, Wire Cloth, Expanded Metals and more. Prefinishes are common, such as: Preanodized, Prepainted, Galvanized-(G30, G60, G90, G210, Electro, Bonderized, Smooth Brite), Aluminized, Galvanneal, Galvalume, PrePlated, Previnyl Laminated, Prepolished, Strippable-PVC coated, Prelaquered and others. Inline Press Fabrications are also common for: Clean Cutting, Holes, End Fabricating, Slots, Cutouts, Perforating, Embossing, Shear Forms, Tabs, Notching, etc.
Roll Formed Hinge Beads: are shapes made similar to blades with a small tubular area along one edge. They are used to produce Continuous Hinges and shorter Hinges. They can be perforated and notched in the tubular area or be plain without notches. On Continuous Hinges, notches in one bead are made to match another. Both beads act as the left and right side of a hinge that uses metal round wire or rods on the inside of the tubular areas to become a finished Hinge. Left and right Hinge Beads may be different Shapes. Hinge Beads are also used individually, similar to Hinging Blades. The small tubular area along the edge may contain a wire or rod, with the other side of the bead attached to a swinging panel. The individual Roll Formed Hinge Beads can be attached to Swinging Panels, small Doors, Hatches, or Windows made of metal, wood, fiberglass, plastic or other materials. Attachments are made by welding or with screw, bolt, or rivet holes. For Spot Welding, Weld Beads can be formed into the bead. A Weld Bead is a small depression or groove for spot welding that runs the length of the part. Weld Dimples can also be put into the Beads, inline. Weld Dimples are small Depressions for spot welding that run intermittently along the length. Inline Press Fabricating of Holes, Slots, Cut-To-Length, End Fabricating, Perforating, Embossing, Tabs, and Shear Forms are common. Materials used and Prefinishes are the same as with Hinging Louvers and Blades above. Tolerances must be tight on Hinge Beads for proper movement, as well.
Parts are produced to order and stock reserve only kept for large blanket order shipping releases. Existing samples may or may not be available. Prototypes for large orders are feasible.
