Frames made from Roll Formed
Parts can be decorative, functional
and structural. These frames
are made from Metal Trim, Mouldings,
Edgings, Rails, Equal Angles, Unequal Angles Profiles,
all styles of Channels, and
occasionally Open Seam: Square
& Rectangulara Tubing. Material
thicknesses can be from .010
thick on more decorative frames,
up to .125" thick on structural
frames. Frames are often made
from Prefinished metals: Prepainted,
Preplated, Galvanized, Preanodized,
Prepolished, Strippable-PVC,
Prelaminated Vinyl , Prelaquered
and also in plain finish meant
to be finished afterward when
assembly or welding with other
parts is completed. Materials
used are: Steel, Stainless,
Alloys, Galvanized, Brass, Copper,
Bronze, Perforated and Wire
Cloth.
Roll Formed Frames can be individual
parts that are part of a frame
made of other materials, or
they can be four identical parts
of various lengths that make
a frame when put together. Individual
parts may have plain ends or
end fabricating and/or miters
that are done inline with pre-notch
and post-notch presses. Roll
Formed Frames can also be comprised
of a single part that has miters
placed in it to make a 4 or
3 sided frame when folded together.
Joints on one piece frames can
be in the mitered corner or
anywhere between two adjacent
miters. On 3 sided frames, ends
may be a certain distance away
from the two miters and ends
may be plain or made with miters
to fit an additional part that
is put on after final assembly.
Other inline fabrications such
as holes, slots, tabs, end fabricating,
are supplied.
Miters are typically done inline
when quantities are higher by
incorporating miter punches
in the cutoff and end fabricating
operation with gag punches using
accelerators and die boosts.
For closest tolerances a special
long press is used to cut and
end fabricate and place all
miters in at the same time after
the part comes out of the roll
former. On lower quantity orders,
for individual frame parts or
single part frames, a secondary
operation away from the roll
forming machine may be used
to place miters in the parts.
Roll Formed Frames can also
be made with profiles such as
channels which has a functional
purpose of sliding materials
into it that can be removed
and replaced later or as a clamp
assembly. Frames made from channels,
edgings, and other profiles,
are also made to fit over material
permanently after assembly.
Frames can simply be a decorative
trim or edge that has no functional
purpose. Some customers even
use Rings as Ring Frames. Frames
can also be made of profiles
for supportive, structural,
even construction industry use,
that does not resemble a 3 or
4 sided frame at all. This is
considered to be the realm of
“Framing”.
Framing:
Framing is a term for individual
parts that are of a structural
and/or supportive nature. They
are not usually meant to be
placed into 4 or 3 sided frames.
Framing is made from profiles
such as: U-Channels, Strut Channels,
C-Channels, Box Channels, Rails
& Angles. It is also made
up of Open, Outward Finned ,
& Inward Flanged Seam: Square,
Rectangular & Round Tubing.
These parts may be used as members
of Structural Framing, or for
uses such as: Brackets, Hangers,
Posts, Railings, Bus Duct &
and can serve as Wireways. Thicknesses
cannot exceed .125” unless
volume is high. Materials can
be: Steel, Stainless, Alloys,
Galvanized, Copper & Bronze.
Prefinishes are limited due
to the increased thicknesses
of these structural parts: Galvanized,
Aluminized, Galvanneal, Galvalume.
Post-Finishing is Common. If
the thicknesses are less than
.048”, other prefinishes
are available. Inline notching
of: Holes, Slots, End Fabricating,
Cut-to-Length, Embossing, Cutouts,
K/O`s, are provided. Lengths
can be as long as 40 feet. Existing
Tooling is available for use
but many profiles are proprietary
so new tooling would be required.
Diffusers
& Grills: These products
are frames that have Cross-Members
inside or other material making
them a completed product. The
Cross Members are Roll Formed:
Shapes, Slats, Hinging Profiles,
Baffles, Battens, Mouldings,
or Channels. They may even be
a Special Shaped roll formed
Tube. Diffuser & Grill Frames
are typically made from a Section
that is different from the inner
cross members. The frames may
be in four individual pieces
or one piece with miters and
end joint fabricating, to be
folded into frames. Frames can
also be in Ring form with end
joint fabrication done inline.
With Grills, in some cases,
the inner portion may have a
different product on the inside
other than a roll formed part,
such as wire, wire cloth, expanded
metal or stampings. These products
are common in the Lighting,
HVAC, Filter & Wire industries,
just to name a few. Diffusers
are commonly made from Prefinished
Metals, such as reflective,
thin, Specular Aluminum that
can be coated with strippable
PVC, Prepainted, Preplated,
Prelaminated Vinyl or Galvanized.
Grills may be made from unfinished
metal and post finished after
a welding assembly is added
but can also be a prefinished
metal. Inline Operations are
performed on both Frame and
Cross Member sections such as:
End Fabricating, Holes, Slots,
Miters, Shear Forms, Cutouts,
Tabs, Perforating, Embossing,
& K/O`s. Metals and thicknesses
used are the same as shown under
frames. Request a quote today for Frames made from Roll Formed Parts can be decorative, functional and structural.
