Holders, Mountings, Edgings, Trim & Retainers
Roll Formed Metal Holders and
Mountings are U-Channels, C-Channels,
J-Channels, Box Channels, Open
Seam Tubing or Profiles, with
a channel incorporated into
them, meant to hold some type
of material in place. These
parts may hold material that
can be slid in and out or, once
inserted, can be mounted permanently.
They are produced in straight
lengths, rings and frames. Some
materials that are held are:
paper, felt, plastic, moldings,
rubber, extrusions, glass, lenses,
mirrors, discs, and other products
made from metal, etc.. Materials
can be inserted, inline, into
the roll formed metal parts
and crimped permanently in place.
Other materials such as rubber
may be inserted into the profile
then tightly crimped or attached
by another method, permanently
in place, in a secondary operation.
Another method of insertion
may be for U-Channels with legs
that that act like a hook, bent
more than 90 degrees, that allows
a material to be slid into an
end and stay there permanently
with a snug fit or be removable
with a looser sliding fit. Legs
of Channels can be tapered back
from the ends, or made with
radii, to provide a safety corner
on the ends. If a special fit
is needed on any part, many
times a durable quality control
gauge is made with the same
fit required on a customer's
insertion material sample. It
then becomes a fit test gauge
that won't wear out to use for
Q.C. in production. Since many
Holders and Mountings are Channels
there is a large amount of existing
tooling to produce them. New
tooling can be made for more
unusual profiles and donated
if volumes are high enough.
Lengths can be from 4”
through 40 feet long. Diameters
can be 2.5” through 8
foot O.D.'s. Material thicknesses
can be .005” through .125”
thick. Materials used are: Steel,
Stainless, Aluminum, Brass,
Copper, Bronze, Alloys, Galvanized,
Perforated, Wire Cloth, High
Strength, Clad and others. Prefinishes
used are: Prepainted, Preplated,
Prepolished, Strippable-PVC
Coated, Preanodized, Prelaminated
Vinyl, Prelaquered, Galvanized-(G30,
G60, G90, G210, Electro, Bonderized),
Aluminized, Galvanneal, Galvalume.
Inline operations are: Holes,
Slots, Shear Forms, Embossing,
Perforating, Cutouts, K/O's,
End Fabricating, Cut-to-Length,
Ring Bending, Miters and more.
Roll
Formed Edgings are mainly U-Channels
and J-Channels that have legs
that are taller than the opening
is narrow. In some cases special
profiles are designed with a
channel area incorporated into
them to serve as edgings and
for an additional structural
or assembly purpose. Smaller
C-Channels, Box Channels and
Open Seam Tubing may also be
used as edgings. Edgings are
made to be a safety edge on
some type of material or metal
preventing cuts from the sharp
edged material it fits over.
They can also be an edge that
is more durable and will not
wear out easily from other parts
that may come in contact with
it. Edgings can also be a mounting
channel meant to hold a material.
Edgings are usually made from
a thinner metal that can be
slid or pushed over an edge
for a snug fit assembly. Hemmed
legs can be added on the inside
or outside of the channel or
profile to allow for an easier
push on fit. Edgings can also
be made from a more rigid thicker
material for a slide in fit
of a more flexible material.
Edgings can be made in Straight
Lengths, Rings, and Frames.
Holes, Slots, Miters, Ring Bending
and other inline fabricating
can be done easily to allow
for other assembly methods.
Materials and Prefinishes used
are the same as with Holders
and Mountings. Length capability
and Inline Fabricating are also
the same as with Mountings and
Holders. Since the most common
form of Edgings are U- Channels
and J-channels, tooling is usually
existing. For the more unique,
complex edging profiles, tooling
may be needed and possibly donated
if volumes are high enough.
Roll
Formed Metal Trim can be made
as: Profiles, Mouldings, Special
Shapes, Channels, Angles, Edgings,
Flashings, Rings & Frames.
Trim is very often made from
metal that is decoratively Prefinished,
such as: Preplated, Prepainted,
Preanodized, Prepolished, Strippable-PVC
Coated, Smooth-Brite Galvanized,
Prelaminated Vinyl, Prelaquered
and more. When part of a welded
assembly it may be produced
in a plain finish to be finished
afterward with the entire assembly.
Metal Trim is not usually very
structural in nature but it
can be made to be. It is often
used in frames made of individual
straight lengths or one pre-mitered
part to produce a fold up frame.
Trim may also be used as a Decorative
Cladding on a part or assembly.
Material types and thicknesses
are the same as with Holders,
Mountings and Edgings. Inline
fabricating and length capability
is also the same. Metal Trim
is similar to Edgings, however,
Trim is much more than just
Channels. Metal Trim can be
very unique, complex Profiles,
Mouldings and Special Shapes,
produced to mate with another
fixture. Metal Trim is used
in all industries such as: Doors
& Windows, Agricultural
Equipment, Decorative Picture
and Poster Frames, Displays,
Glass & Mirrors, Architectural
Construction, and so much more.
When Metal Trim is in Channel
or Angle form, tooling is usually
existing. For more complex Profiles,
Mouldings, and Special Shapes,
that are not in our print examples,
new tooling may be needed. New
Tooling can be donated with
enough volume.
Parts are produced to order and stock reserve only kept for large blanket order shipping releases. Existing samples may or may not be available. Prototypes for large orders are feasible.
